As the name suggests, this was a studio band RCA Victor put together to sell records in 1925. Duh. They never played live gigs.
The roster of musicians constantly changed. But some amazing people came and went including: Ciriaco Ortiz, Elvino Vardaro, Pedro Laurenz, Aníbal Troilo, and singers Angel Vargas and Francisco Fiorentino.
When I'm looking for a warm vintage sound to play for dancers, I often reach for OTV. They made gorgeous tango and vals.
One of my favorite tango recordings is OTV's Ventarron (1933 - unforgettable music by Pedro Maffia). It is anthemic. And the recognizable violin of Vardaro is right up front.
